OUR APROACH
TO CARE

TRAUMA-INFORMED
CARE PHILOSOPHY

At Trillium Family Services, our work is guided by a trauma-informed approach that shapes how we support individuals, families, and our community. We understand that experiences influence both people and systems, and we aim to create a safe, supportive environment where everyone feels respected and valued.

Instead of asking “What is wrong with you?”, we ask, “What has happened to you?” This reflects our belief that while adversity can shape behavior, it does not define a person. We believe in resilience, healing, and growth.

At Trillium, you will often hear reference to “PRESENCE.” The PRESENCE Model is at the heart of our approach, providing a shared framework that helps all staff understand trauma, adversity, and stress. It builds the knowledge, values, and skills needed to support healing, while guiding us to create interactions grounded in safety, trust, and growth.

We strive to create spaces where all people feel respected, supported, and able to fully participate. By centering trust, collaboration, and shared responsibility, we build a culture where both our staff and the communities we serve can thrive.
