Greg Porter
Therapeutic Foster Care
Trillium Waverly Children's Home Campus

Greg Porter first started working at Trillium Family Services in September 1999 in a temporary capacity as an
Administrative Assistant. However it only took us a month to see that Greg was too good to lose, so we offered
him a permanent position! Many of Greg's initial years at Trillium were spent taking care of his aging parent
and balancing his personal and professional life. "It was a very stressful time but working around the kids made
it easier and the support I got from Trillium was invaluable." Greg worked in a variety of roles including a
CATS position for Day Treatment and the Therapeutic School. Greg said, "I did anything else that was thrown at
me - like Softball." (Greg was a vital player to the TFS softball team.)
Most recently, he has been working as a Consultant in the Trillium Therapeutic Foster Care program for nearly two
years. He loves working with kids. When asked about his experience, Greg said, "I grew up in Portland and my parents
were some of the first African Americans to move here from the South." He believes his upbringing in a mostly
non-mixed neighborhood in the 1960's taught him how important it is to help those on the fringes of society, and
help them gain confidence to live and prosper in a world that may not be made for the diversity they have to offer.
"Role models get thrown around a lot today, but those in your community that give of their time and money to help
youth, and give them outlets to gain confidence, are the most valuable people a society can have. It takes a village
because sometimes individuals need the strength of the community to stand them up and show others a better way."
In college Greg minored in Social Science and Music. It's very important to note that prior to Greg's start at Trillium
Family Services, he toured professionally as a drummer and singer. If you're lucky, you may catch him singing in the
hallways at Trillium Waverly Children's Home.
