Outpatient Therapy & Community-Based Programs
Outpatient Therapy and other Community-Based Programs are
designed for children who can function in everyday social
settings, such as classrooms in their local schools, but
who need ongoing support and therapy to manage their conditions
and to succeed in these environments. Without Outpatient
Services, a child's condition may worsen, leading to failure
in their school and disruption at home. Left untreated, children
may require more intensive services later on.
Trillium's outpatient program provides the convenience of
getting different types of services from the most appropriate
type of clinician. This includes services provided by licensed
psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, counselors,
or psychiatric nurse practitioners.
Services also can be provided in the most appropriate location,
such as a Trillium outpatient clinic, home, school, or other
community setting. Coordination of these services is provided
to meet the needs of the individual child, adolescent, and
family.
Trillium therapists work in concert with families and a
child’s teachers, school counselors, and physicians
to develop an appropriate care plan, which can include a
mix of services. Like all Trillium programs, Outpatient Services
follow Trillium’s philosophy of family-centered care.

What Happens in Outpatient Therapy?
Typically, children attend one or more appointments per
week with a therapist, depending on their needs. Each session
lasts about a hour. This form of individual Outpatient Therapy
also may be combined with:
- Group therapy.
- Family therapy.
- Parent support groups and parent education
classes.
- In-home skills training and therapy for families.
During sessions, children and therapists begin building
new skills such as problem solving, anger management, and
social skills development, among addressing other issues.
If Trillium has clinicians based in a child’s local
school district, most appointments will be in the school,
and therapists work daily with teachers, counselors and administrators
to develop and implement a complete care plan that includes
academic goals.
As with all of our therapy programs, families are strongly
encouraged to participate in the therapy process. In fact,
Outpatient Therapy often involves the whole family at various
stages of treatment.
