Day
Treatment Programs
Day Treatment is designed for children who have difficulty
functioning in mainstream community settings, such as classrooms,
and who need a higher intensity of services than outpatient
counseling provides, for example. Day Treatment is available
in the Portland Metro region only.
Children in Day Treatment attend school and receive therapy
at our Waverly Campus in Southeast Portland during the course
of a normal school day. Parents often provide transportation,
or children arrive by school bus and other transportation
options available locally.
Trillium’s Day Treatment Program reflects our philosophy
that therapy should include children’s families and
other important figures in a child’s life, including
teachers, clergy and extended family. Upon admission, Trillium’s
treatment staff partner with families to develop a complete
treatment plan that combines the right mix of services to
help children succeed in therapy.
When children complete therapy, the treatment team works
with you and your child to utilize newly learned behaviors
and take the skills home. Staff discuss discharge plans with
parents or guardians and determine the best way to provide
a strong support system in a child's home, school and other
everyday settings. This often includes working closely with
teachers, school counselors, and other important figures
in a child's life.
What Happens in Day Treatment?
Children arrive at the Trillium Waverly Campus at 8 a.m.
and leave at 1 p.m., closely mirroring a typical school day.
During their day, they participate in a variety of activities,
such as:
- Individual and group therapy.
- Skills building, such as anger management, social
skills development, and problem solving.
- Academics in a therapeutic school environment.
- Recreation and meal times.
As with all of our therapy programs, families are strongly
encouraged to participate in the therapy process. Treatment often extends into the evening in many cases with
family therapy sessions, in-home skills building so families
learn how to mange ongoing mental health needs, and treatment
planning sessions that include Trillium therapists, families,
teachers and other important figures in a child's life.
