Every child has the potential to thrive. At Trillium Family Services, we believe in looking beyond the current behavior of a young person toward the underlying cause because we know that this is the only way to create lasting change.

Trillium, a nonprofit organization, was formed in 1998 when three historic agencies -- the Children's Farm Home in Corvallis and the Parry Center for Children and Waverly Children's Home in Portland -- merged to create an integrated treatment system with a statewide reach. Today, through programs at two campuses (Portland Metro Area and Mid-Willamette Valley) as well as in a wide range of community-based programs, Trillium serves more than 5,000 children and families each year. Trillium's specialized programs also include innovative complementary treatments such as horticultural, canine, and equine therapies.

What makes Trillium unique?

Every child is different. Our priority is teaching young people the skills they need to manage their mental health challenges so that they can thrive in their own way. Trillium's highly skilled team works with each child and family to develop a treatment plan tailored specifically to the young person's individual needs.

Playground

Our campuses offer a comforting, home-like environment. With playgrounds, recreational facilities, gardens, and warm, inviting living areas, children can participate in a range of activities in a setting that adds to the therapeutic benefits of treatment.

Families are an important part of the healing process. Whenever possible, we encourage parents and family members to participate in family therapy sessions and to be involved in their children's treatment plan. For children in residential treatment, our campuses have special rooms dedicated to family visits.

At Trillium, therapy is everywhere. Specialized therapeutic programs offer children the opportunity to participate in fun, age-appropriate activities such as gardening (in the Healing Garden at our Parry Center for Children in the Portland Metro area) or riding and caring for horses (at the Children's Farm Home in the Mid-Willamette Valley area). Our campuses also have specially trained "therapy dogs" who help to calm children during difficult times.

Whom We Serve

Children's Farm Home

Mental health challenges do not discriminate. The children we serve come from all walks of life. Their families reflect Oregon. Many are what our stereotypes consider normal, everyday families. Many times, parents have tried everything within their ability to help their children deal with their mental and behavioral health challenges. Some families are torn apart for various reasons, propelling children into crisis. In some cases, children come from dysfunctional homes where their basic needs are not met or they may have experienced abuse.

Through our comprehensive array of services and programs, we treat children ranging in age from 5 through 17 years old. Our Young Adult Program also provides support for young people ages 17-24 by teaching them the life skills necessary to cope with their mental health challenges and become successful adults.

The children we treat suffer from illnesses such as:

  • Severe depression

  • Bipolar disorder

  • Schizophrenia

  • Aggressive behaviors

  • Attention deficit disorder

  • Post traumatic stress disorder

  • Other conditions caused by genetics, biological factors, or environmental conditions

Despite the various illnesses and causes, the children have something in common. They need support and specialized therapy to help them learn to cope with the mental and behavioral challenges they face. Some can no longer function in their homes and community settings. They are disruptive, sometimes uncontrollable; often a danger to themselves or others.

Families, guardians and loved ones are exhausted by efforts to help their children, and they come to Trillium Family Services wary because nothing before has seemed to help... But Trillium offers hope for children and families to understand their challenges and find healing through therapy, support, and gaining new skills to cope with their illnesses. We work with families and community support networks to help children heal and return to their homes and loved ones, where they can lead lives that fulfill their potential.

Treatment Works

We can help every child thrive in their own way. If it's a one-time mental health crisis, we work with children and families to treat their condition and to create new environments that prevent reoccurrences.

For ongoing illnesses, just as patients manage lifelong medical conditions such as diabetes, many mental health conditions can be managed if we equip children and families with the right skills..
